Dion shares legacy of music at Boca Raton Roundtable Luncheon
Recording artist and composer Dion DiMucci was the featured speaker at the March Boca Raton Roundtable Luncheon, held at the Boca Raton Marriott. Dion and his group called the “Belmonts,” were the most successful vocal doo-wop group of the late fifties. His music represents a special time and place…a moment when a song could sum up what it means to be young, in love, and on top of the world.
While strumming his guitar, Dion gave a musical account of his journey from singing as a teenager with his street mates from Belmont Avenue in the Bronx, to his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.
Dion, street poet and singer of extraordinary versatility, range, and resonance, defined Rock and Roll for a generation. His music broke from the clean-cut pack with an engaging cool streetwise swagger, epitomized by “The Wanderer.” He had ten top hits, including “Runaround Sue,” “Drip Drop,” and “Donna the Prima Donna.”
